Additionally, though the melting point of this particular type of Inconel is lower than that of 304 stainless steel, it has a higher operating temperature limit.
In the most basic terms INCONEL® is a nickel-chromium alloy whereas MONEL® is a nickel-copper alloy. Both metals are commonly used in applications with extreme heat, high temperature corrosion, and generally severe conditions. … INCONEL® 601is the metal for the job in this case.
Inconel 600 is a nickel-chromium Alloy 600 with good oxidation resistance at higher temperatures. With good resistance in carburizing and chloride containing environments.
Alloy 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy designed for use from cryogenic to elevated temperatures in the range of 2000 deg F(1093 deg C). The high nickel content of the alloy enables it to retain considerable resistance under reducing conditions and makes it resistant to corrosion by a number of organic and inorganic compounds. The nickel content gives it excellent resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking and also provides excellent resistance to alkaline solutions.
Its chromium content gives the alloy resistance to sulfur compounds and various oxidizing environments. The chromium content of the alloy makes it superior to commercially pure nickel under oxidizing conditions. In strong oxidizing solutions like hot, concentrated nitric acid, 600 has poor resistance. Alloy 600 is relatively un-attacked by the majority of neutral and alkaline salt solutions and is used in some caustic environments. The alloy resists steam and mixtures of steam, air and carbon dioxide.
Alloy 600 / 2.4816 is non-magnetic, has excellent mechanical properties and a combination of high strength and good workability and is readily weldable. Alloy 600 exhibits cold forming characteristics normally associated with chromium-nickel stainless steels.
Typical corrosion applications include titanium dioxide production (chloride route), perchlorethylene syntheses, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), and magnesium chloride. Alloy 600 ( UNS N06600 ) is used in chemical and food processing, heat treating, phenol condensers, soap manufacture, vegetable and fatty acid vessels and many more.

Hastelloy® B-2, UNS N10665
UNS Number N010665 Other common names: Alloy B-2
Hastelloy B2 is a solid solution strengthened, nickel-molybdenum alloy, with significant resistance to reducing environments like hydrogen chloride gas, and sulfuric, acetic and phosphoric acids. Molybdenum is the primary alloying element which provides significant corrosion resistance to reducing environments. This nickel steel alloy can be used in the as-welded condition because it resists the formation of grain-boundary carbide precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone.
This nickel alloy provides excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures. In additions, Hastelloy B2 has excellent resistance to pitting, stress corrosion cracking and to knife-line and heat-affected zone attack. Alloy B2 provides resistance to pure sulfuric acid and a number of non-oxidizing acids.
Alloy B-2 has poor corrosion resistance to oxidizingenvironments, therefore, it is not recommended for use in oxidizing media or in the presence of ferric or cupric salts because they may cause rapid premature corrosion failure. These salts may develop when hydrochloric acid comes in contact with iron and copper. Therefore, if this alloy is used in conjunction with iron or copper piping in a system containing hydrochloric acid, the presence of these salts could cause the alloy to fail prematurely. In addition, this nickel steel alloy should not be used at temperatures between 1000° F and 1600° F because of a reduction in the ductility in the alloy.

MONEL K500 (NA18, 2.4375) is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines high strength, corrosion resistance and non magnetic properties.
A thoroughly modern alloy, MONEL K500 (N05500), is a high performance alloy that benefits greatly from double melting through the Electro Slag Refining (ESR) process, this ensures the cleanest and highest quality of material is supplied. ESR processing improves alloy purity and is required for this alloy to remove non metallic inclusions that can form HARD spots in the material when the alloy is aged, Inclusions in materials can result in inconsistent material properties, increased machining difficulty and processing times and ultimately part failures.
Although we supply MONEL K500 (NA18) in all conditions we predominantly supply material in the Hot Worked and Aged condition, which offers the optimum combination of high strength and ductility across the size range, all our material is manufactured to meet the most demanding of the Offshore and Energy Industry customer requirements.
Typical applications for alloy K-500 are pump shafts and impellers; doctor blades and scrapers; oil-well drill collars and instruments; electronic components; springs; and valve trim.
The corrosion resistance of Monel alloy K-500 is subtantially equivalent to that of alloy 400 except that, when in the age-hardened condition, alloy K-500 has a greater tendency toward stress-corrosion cracking in some environments. Monel alloy K-500 has been found to be resistant to a sour-gas environment. After 6 days of continuous immersion in saturated (3500ppm) hydrogen sulfide solutions at acidic and basic pH’s (ranging from 1.0 to 11.0), U-bend specimens of age-hardened sheet show no cracking. There was some tightly adherent black scale. Hardness of the specimens ranged from 28 to 40 Rc. The combination of very low corrosion rates in high-velocity sea water and high strength make alloy K-500 particularly suitable for shafts of centrifugal pumps in marine service. In stagnant or slow-moving sea water, fouling may occur followed by pitting, but this pitting slows down after a fairly rapid initial attack.
Machining Heavy machining of alloy K-500 is best accomplished when the material is in the annealed condition or hot-worked and quenched condition. Age-hardened material, however, can be finish-machined to close tolerances and fine finished. The recommended practice, therefore, is to machine slightly oversize, age-harden, then finish to size. During aging, a slight permanent contraction (about 0.0002 in/in) takes place, but little warpage occurs because of the low temperatures and slow cooling rates involved

In the most basic terms INCONEL® is a nickel-chromium alloy whereas MONEL® is a nickel-copper alloy. … Both metals are commonly used in applications with extreme heat, high temperature corrosion, and generally severe conditions.
Monel, any of a group of nickel-copper alloys, first developed in 1905, containing about 66 percent nickel and 31.5 percent copper, with small amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. Stronger than pure nickel, Monel alloys are resistant to corrosion by many agents, including rapidly flowing seawater.
Incoloy 825 , Alloy 825, UNS N08825 W.Nr. 2.4858
INCOLOY Alloy 825 is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper, and titanium. The nickel content is sufficient for resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. The nickel, in conjunction with the molybdenum and copper, also gives outstanding resistance to reducing environments such as those containing sulfuric and phosphoric acids. The molybdenum also aids resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The alloy’s chromium content confers resistance to a variety of oxidizing substances such as nitric acid, nitrates and oxidizing salt. The titanium addition serves, with an appropriate heat treatment, to stabilize the alloy against sensitization to intergranular corrosion.

Alloy 825 is a versatile general engineering alloy with resistance to corrosion in acids and alkalis under both oxidising and reducing conditions.
High nickel content gives the alloy virtual immunity to stress corrosion cracking.
Corrosion resistance is good in media as diverse as sulphuric, sulphurous, phosphoric, nitric and organic acids, alkalis such as sodium or potassium hydroxide, and aqueous chloride solutions.
The versatility of alloy 825 is illustrated by its use in nuclear fuel element dissolvers where a variety of corrosive media, e.g. sulphuric and nitric acids and sodium hydroxide, are handled in the same equipment.

The major difference between Inconel 625 and 825 is the nickel content; Inconel 625 contains about 58% of nickel while Inconel 825 contains about 36-48% of nickel. Moreover, they have different melting points as well. The melting point of Inconel 625 is 1350◦C, but it is 1400◦C for Inconel 825.
Inconel alloys vary widely in their compositions, but all are predominantly nickel, with chromium as the second element.
The word Inconel is an industry term coined by the International Nickel Company (INCO) to describe alloys high in nickel content, meaning Inconel is not one specific alloy. … Although not naturally magnetic, certain Inconel alloys have magnetic properties, depending on the particular elements involved.
Incoloy ALLOY 925, UNS N09925
Alloy 925 is a precipitation-hardenable Nickel-Iron-Chromium Alloys with additions of Molybdenum, Copper, Titanium and Aluminium, supplied in the solution annealed condition and an aged condition.
The Titanium and Aluminium are specifically added to give a strengthening of the alloy during ageing, as Ni3(Al, Ti) gamma (‘ϒ’) prime precipitates form throughout the alloy matrix and greatly increases the hardness and strength in a similar way to Alloy K500, Alloy 718 and Alloy 725.
Alloy 925 / N09925 has excellent corrosion resistance consistent with Alloy 825. High levels of nickel ensure protection against stress corrosion cracking, whilst the additional molybdenum and copper resist reducing environments, in the same way that Chromium resists oxidising environments. Molybdenum enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, lifting the Pitting Resistance Equivalent number (PREN) to above 26. With such a balanced composition, Alloy 925 is particularly suited to down-hole applications in sour gas wells , but can also be used in less aggressive applications as it resists general, pitting, crevice and stress corrosion cracking in most aqueous environments where chloride or sulphide ions may be present.

INCOLOY 27-7MO Sheet and Plate UNS S31277
Alloy 27-7MO (UNS S31277) is an advanced 7% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless steel offering corrosion resistance in most environments superior to 6% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless steels. In many environments alloy 27-7MO offers resistance approaching that of much more highly alloyed materials such as INCONEL alloys 625, 22, and C-276. Alloy 27-7MO products typically contain 27% nickel, 22% chromium, 7.2% molybdenum, and 0.34% nitrogen. Its limiting chemical composition is presented in Table 1. The alloy’s content of nickel and nitrogen produce a stable austenitic structure. By virtue of its content of molybdenum, chromium, and nitrogen, alloy 27-7MO offers excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The nickel, nitrogen, and molybdenum provide resistance to reducing media while a high content of chromium offers resistance to oxidizing media. Alloy 27-7MO performs well in mixed acid environments, especially those containing oxidizing and reducing acids. The alloy’s contents of nickel and nitrogen result in resistance to stress corrosion cracking and attack by caustic media. Alloy 27-7MO offers excellent resistance to corrosion in seawater and brine. It also resists stress corrosion cracking in all concentrations of sodium chloride up to saturation at the boiling point. It is resistant to the aggressive media encountered in air pollution control systems such as flue gas desulfurization equipment for high-sulfur coal-fired electric power utilities. Applications for INCOLOY alloy 27-7MO are found in the pollution control, power, marine, chemical processing, pulp and paper and oil and gas industries. The alloy offers a unique combination of corrosion resistance, high strength and ease of fabrication at an economical price. Alloy 27-7MO is available in standard product forms including plate, sheet, rod, bar, wire rod, pipe, tube, and forging stock.

Corrosion Resistance Pitting Resistance Equivalency Number – A means of comparing the corrosion resistance of alloys is by their Pitting Resistance Equivalency Number or ‘PREN’. Alloys exhibiting higher PREN values are generally found to be more resistant to localized corrosion than those with lower PREN values. The PREN can be calculated by several different equations based upon the chemical composition of the alloys. Some equations are applicable to stainless steels while others are better applied to nickel-based alloys. The equation used here is generally accepted as being applicable to a wide range of alloy compositions. When comparing alloys by their PREN it is absolutely necessary that the same equation be used for all materials to be compared. Comparing alloys by PRENs generated from different equations will give erroneous results. For more information on the use of PRENs to compare the corrosion resistance of materials, refer to the Special Metals publication, “High Performance Alloys for Resistance to Aqueous Corrosion” or visit the Special Metals website, www.specialmetals.com. PRENs for alloy 27-7MO and similar materials are seen in Table 5. Based on these values of PREN, alloy 27-7MO would be predicted to offer significantly better corrosion resistance than alloy 25-6MO (and similar grades of super-austenitic
Resistance to Corrosion by Seawater Nickel-chromium alloys and austenitic and super-austenitic stainless steels containing molybdenum are well known for their resistance to corrosion in seawater and marine environments. A test program conducted at the LaQue Center for Corrosion Technology in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina (a laboratory well known for marine corrosion testing) produced data showing that INCOLOY alloy 27-7MO offers corrosion-resistance superior to many of the corrosion-resistant alloys commonly used in marine service. Samples of sheet to which Teflon crevice devices were attached were exposed to flowing natural seawater at

INCOLOY® 800H / 800HT®
Incoloy 800, 800H, and 800HT are nickel-iron-chromium alloys with good strength and excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization in high-temperature exposure. These nickel steel alloys are identical except for the higher level of carbon in alloy 800H, and the addition of up to 1.20 percent aluminum and titanium in alloy 800HT. Incoloy 800 was the first of these alloys and it was slightly modified into Incoloy 800H. This modification was to control carbon (.05-.10%) and grain size to optimize stress rupture properties. Incoloy 800HT has further modifications to the combined titanium and aluminum levels (.85-1.20%) to ensure optimum high temperature properties. The nickel alloy is dual certified (800H/HT) and combines the properties of both forms. Incoloy 800H/HT alloy was intended for high temperature structural applications. The nickel content makes the alloys highly resistant to both chloride stress-corrosion cracking and to embrittlement from precipitation of sigma phase. The general corrosion resistance is excellent. In the solution annealed condition, alloys 800H and 800HT have superior creep and stress rupture properties. Today, most suppliers, including Mega Mex, only carry the dual certified 800H/HT alloy.
Alloy 800 is primarily used in applications with temperatures up to 1100° F, where alloy 800H and alloy 800HT are normally used in temperatures above 1100° F where resistance to creep and rupture is required. The chemical balance allows the nickel steel alloy to exhibit excellent resistance to carburization, oxidation and nitriding atmospheres. Alloy 800HT will not become embrittled even after long periods of usage in the 1200-1600° F range where many stainless steels become brittle. Excellent cold forming characteristics typically associated with the nickel-chromium alloys are exhibited with Alloy 800HT. When cold formed extensively the grain size produces a visibly undulated surface called “orange peel”. Alloy 800HT can be welded by the common techniques used on stainless steels.
